The battle against the bulge is a common one unfortunately none more so in our household.
From anyone of our daughters, to my wife or I, someone is always complaining that they are too fat, too this, too that!
Back in the old days, women were seemingly always more aware of any extra weight that might oh so very lightly reveal itself through a dress or a blouse, but nowadays men have come on board and so we too now spend time wondering if a particular shirt is not making us look too big, and perhaps we should go back on a diet. “Hey man, put on a few pounds lately?” is something a “former” good friend of mine told me recently and when I was passed the initial shock of this untimely revelation, it dawned on me that times have indeed changed. In a previous life, he might have taunted me on the perfection (or lack thereof) of my tennis back hand, or the lightness of my steps. Today, it’s my expanding waist that he commented on!
The truth is we could all do with losing some weight, some more than others and the fight is on with new diets, new supplements, new pills, new miracle programs.
Between all of us, our household probably is a true representation of the dieting population spectrum. We’ve been dieting for ever.
And as I contemplate this latest sentence, I realize that our perfect body nature gave us as a gift when we were born needs to be maintained with adequate nutrition and exercise.
The heaviest amongst us feel unlucky that all it takes is smell our food to put on weight whilst those of use who have kept a youthful figure throughout our life know that it takes work, and dedication.
Dedication! Is this the miracle diet we have been striving for?
Whatever our goal, let us arm ourselves with a generous portion of dedication, for this is one food we can never have enough off.
Sprinkle it with exercise, spice it up with good humor and what can we look forward to? A healthy body!
