Safe weight loss is a process by which we lose weight at a rate considered to be safe for the average person, using sound nutritional and exercising practices. It is neither the beginning nor the end of any weight loss attempt and should rather be considered as a series of small but decisive lifestyle changes which, when added together can overtime lead to a substantial and sustainable weight loss.
A Safe weight loss is considered to be no more than 1-2 pounds per week for the average person and of this reason, for some of us, it can be a very long process. The advantage to this approach is that we not only lose weight, but more importantly stand a greater chance of keeping the weight off and thus enjoy the benefits of a healthier lifestyle.
Do not embark on safe weight loss program before beginning any weight loss program, it is important to ensure that the program is safe.
Nutrition and exercise go hand in hand in any weight loss program. Exercise such as aerobic exercise for example burn fat and calories and act as appetite and hunger suppressant. Exercise not only promotes safe weight loss but also act as a natural mood enhancer and energy booster. This in turn causes us to be more active and thus lose more weight. Always consult a doctor or health specialist before starting any diet of exercises program and start by setting reasonable goals that can be achieved. All too often, we set ourself unreachable goals but the application of a strict and rigid exercise program which we then can not maintain. Lets walk before we run should be our motto!
A safe weight loss can be achieved by a modest reduction of our calorie intake of no more than 250 to 1000 calories a day depending on our body type, sex and overall health. A Caffe Latte from Starbuck serves a whooping 190 calories. Replace this by a brewed coffee and we have reduced our daily calorie intake by 185 calories! (Don’t think that because it says “non fat” on the label that it actually has fewer calories! Do you know that a “Nonfat Vanilla Latte from Starbuck has 200 calories!)
A diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables is generally recommended to achieve safe weight loss. Drastic measures such as crash dieting have never shown any success in the long term and as such should be avoided at all cost! While fasting plays a major part in some diets, it is generally not recommended for safe weight loss.
As a person who is constantly fighting to lose weight and keep the weight off, I know how depressing and frustrating a safe weight loss can be.
But with a gradual change in our lifestyle, our hope to one day wake up lighter and even thin can really be a reality. Of course it is not going to happen over night. It may take us months, or even more, but if in the process of our effort, we begin to feel better, have more energy each day than the day before and enjoy our life to the full then my friends we will have graduated from being hopeful dieters to real life fat burning ninja fighter.
Go on.. Let us release the warrior in all of us.
To your good health!
